Healthcare and the Treaty of Waitangi

Q: Who should enrol in this training?

A: Health professionals and others working in the NZ health sector require Treaty of Waitangi training.

Health professionals working in General Practice or those who may be completing continuing education accreditation.

Q: What is the purpose of the programme?

A: The aim of the course is to explain current health disparities from an historical perspective. Such an understanding clears the way for addressing the issues, and facilitates an improvement in health outcomes.

Q: Tell me more!

A: The significance of the Treaty is examined in relation to the modern NZ health care environment. Historical and legislative determinants which underlie health disparities in today’s NZ are examined. Changing relationships connected with the Treaty are reviewed, and the effects noted.

A timeline overview of major health-related events in NZ is considered, especially as affecting Māori health. References used when creating the programme have been hyperlinked to enable you to view other reference information available.

You are able to log in and out of the training programme as many times as you like. Each module is able to be completed independently; however you must complete a module before you log out for your answers to be retained.

There are four modules to the training which take approximately 15 minutes to complete, depending on your knowledge of the treaty. Once all four modules have been completed you will receive a prompt to print your certificate which may be submitted for MOP’s points, cornerstone or other continuing education accreditation.

Q: What is the cost of the training and how do I pay?

A: The cost is $20.00(+gst) per registration. Contact elearning@mauriora.co.nz to register your interest or request and invoice, which you can pay by either cheque or internet banking. Once payment has been received we will forward your registration and login details by email to you.
